Reasonable Adjustments

< Back to policies & procedures

We want everyone to be able to access our services easily, safely, and with dignity.

Some patients may find it harder to use GP services because of a disability, long-term condition, sensory impairment, mental health condition, or neurodiversity. If this applies to you, we can make reasonable adjustments to support you.

What kind of help can we offer?

Depending on your needs, we may be able to offer:

  • Longer or double appointments
  • Flexible appointment times
  • A quieter waiting option or waiting outside
  • Step-free access or ground-floor rooms
  • Information in large print, easy read, or other formats
  • Communication by text, email, or written summaries
  • Support for carers, advocates, or support workers to attend with you
  • Telephone, or home visits where appropriate

How do I ask for reasonable adjustments?

You can tell us about your needs:

  • When you register with the practice
  • When booking an appointment
  • During a consultation
  • By speaking to reception or clinical staff

You can ask at any time. You do not need to share more information than you are comfortable with.

What happens next?

If we agree a reasonable adjustment with you:

  • We will record it confidentially in your medical record
  • Our staff will be able to see this so we can support you consistently
  • We will review it with you if your needs change

Confidentiality

Any information you share with us about reasonable adjustments will be kept confidential and only shared with staff involved in your care.
